Kapa Haka Festival

On Wednesday was the Kapa Haka Festival!

We waited backstage for 1 minute  then we nervously walked  on stage!

I am in the 2nd row of girls.

The first song we sang was E Te ariki. Matiria ( Matiria is one of our Kia) said Whakapiri and we bunched together.

Nekiatu , Matiria said and we unbunched and sang U taina. The second time round singing girls sang U taina and boys sang the Utaina haka as  girls walked to the back and boys went to the front.

Next was the Wainui haka and the Kamate haka.

We learnt a new song and poi called  Rona. The second time singing it girls walked through through to the front and boys went back. The third time singing it the front row of girls went down on on their knees so the second row became 1st row.

The last song was Wainui E.The second time through everyone eventually made it off the stage.

Once we had finished our performance and Nui and Wai  did too we sand our school song together.

Polyline Calendar art

Last week and this week our class has been working on our  Calendar art!

Our Calendar art this year is a beach photo that we had to draw polylines (polylines are like a digital pen or pencil) over all the lines and and patterns in the photo! We also have to have to colour the lines in depending on what colour they are.

The best art pieces get sold at the craft fair!!!

Fingers crossed that my art gets sold at the craft fair🤞

 This is my polyline drawing

This is the photo I was drawing on

Year 5 fun week while the year 6s were at camp

This week is year 6 camp and the year 5's got to do lots of  fun activities with Matua Beau! We still had to do Math Whizz and Word Work as Kiwi Kids News for my Kiwi Kids News I choose an article about a man who visited Disneyland 3000 days in a row and my other article was about a bee that scientists found that was half female and half male.

We also did this really cool hand art where you draw the outline of your hand and you draw stripes and curve it when you get to the hand.

We also had to do Athletics practice, Kapa Haka Practice and speech writing, my speech is about Jacinda Ardern.

The Butterfly show

On Tuesday we went to the Wainui SLSC ( surf life saving club) to watch a butterfly show that was supposed to  happen two terms ago  in the school hall but because of lock down they couldn't do that and if you read one of my other posts "MLH move to hall"you would know that we are working in the hall so the butterfly show had to be postponed .

So the wainui SLSC kindly let the  butterfly show go on there instead.

The show was about a girl who went to stay with her Granny who was a butterfly scientist .And how she was writing her school speech about butterflies ,and how she saved the creek  by telling her speech to the judge .

I really enjoyed the show.

The Beach Hair Bouquet

This Week on Monday and Tuesday Moana syndicate (year 4's,5's and 6's) went across the road to the beach!

On the sand dunes flowers were growing so I asked my friend Josephine if she wanted me to do a plait and put flowers in them so I did, after I plaited her hair  Ella came over and saw what we were doing and asked if we could do it in her hair I said yes because her hair is so soft and easy to plait so we started a business called: "The Beach Hair Bouquet" I even did one of our teacher Koka Terri's hair  and Josephine did Koka Leah's hair

Cross Country 2020

This week on Monday each syndicate in the school had to go down to the Cross Country course.Usually the whole School goes down all together but due to it being level 2  we had to go down in our age groups.

The Cross Country course is at Okitu reserve in Gisborne.

The First race was the year 6 boys and girls (there are only 5 year 6 girls so they do their race together)

The 2nd race(my race) was the year 5 girls and I did not stop, for the whole way and guess what? I came eighth place !!!!!😁 yay me!!!!!!!!

The third race was year 5 boys(only of our syndicate)

And even after we had done our race we still had to WALK back even, though some of the Teachers got to DRIVE back to School.

MLH move to the hall

On Monday room 2 and 3 (also known as Moana 2 and 3 ) had to pack up EVERYTHING out of  our classrooms all the tables,chairs,art,posters,chromebooks,T-vs,work etc into the hall but not only that but we also had to put everything up in the hall and to do that we had to take art and posters down.

The reason we had to take everything down is because the builders are doing up Room 1 and 2 so room one has to move out and move into room 3 ,and Moana 2 and 3 have to move into the hall .I personally didn't think it would look good and I thought that the classrooms didn't need doing up , but now that we have finished and we are working in it I wish it was permanent now.

Here are some photos of our new set up

Project Based Learning

This week my Teacher (Koka Ngaire) choose 5 groups of 3 people to make up a project in our groups.

My group is made up of Me,(Rio) Ivy and Charlotte A, our name is The Troublemakers.

For our project we are planning to create a wall with books wrapped in paper with little clues saying things like mystery and magic depending on what type of book it is and once people have read the book they can take the cover off the book and reveal what the book is called!

We are calling our project the "Mystery Library" because the book that you pick is a mystery!

The reason we are doing this project is because we don't want people to judge books by their cover and also people actually like the book/s that they read and get them reading books they never would have thought to read!
